One of Matthew Boulton’s most successful designs, here incorporating the use of dark veined blue john enriched with ormolu mounts. Scroll arms, resting on Rams’ Heads with laurel leaves between. Above, the classic twin-branch Candle arms with scrolls, rosettes and chased candle holders. The pair relate to several examples illustrated in Matthew Boulton, Ormolu, by Goodison and from drawings in Boulton’s Pattern Book.
